KERATIN BONDED HAIR EXTENSIONS
Keratin bonded extensions, commonly referred to as fusion extensions, utilize a method that attaches individual strands close to the scalp by means of a keratin or polymer bond applied with a heating iron. I favor this technique over the cold fusion method (which uses electric current) because it gives me greater control over the heat level required for bonding the extensions. The temperature can be tailored for clients with delicate or weakened hair, which isn’t possible with the cold fusion approach.
These bonded hair extensions are versatile and can be used on hair types ranging from very fine to very thick. The bond can be individually sized and blended to cater to each client’s specific needs, opening up endless possibilities. Thanks to the customizable bond size, bonded extensions can also be placed closer to the hairline and on the upper sections of the head while still being discreetly concealed.
The usual lifespan of bonded hair extensions is approximately 4 to 6 months before they need replacing. They will grow out alongside your natural hair. Clients with finer hair may require replacements a bit sooner, based on how the extensions are installed, a detail I can evaluate during your consultation. Similar to all extension methods, bonded extensions do not cause damage to your natural hair if they are installed and maintained properly.
Taking care of bonded hair extensions is relatively straightforward. I recommend gentle cleansing at least three times a week and daily brushing to keep them in good condition. It's really that easy. You can blow-dry, curl, or flat iron bonded hair extensions and style them just as you would your natural hair, as long as you use proper care and heat protectant. Additionally, you can refresh the color of your hair while wearing extensions, as all types of hair extensions can be color matched to your hair.
Bonded hair extensions are on the higher end of the price scale due to their labor-intensive application and minimal upkeep required. Once they’re in place, you can forget about them until it’s time for a new set.
